So it’s off to Spain we go!

Well I think it is fair to say that Mother Nature has been pretty cruel to us English carp anglers over the course of the last couple of months although that may be good for the summer, it’s pretty crap now.  So after indulging in a conversation with a nice gentleman from Ebro carp fishing tours it was agreed that we would be heading over for a spot of winter fishing!

Incredibly the time is now upon me with the hassles and grief of running a tackle shop being pushed aside for a week I now have the headache of trying to plan my trip.  Getting there is very simple.. Our flights are booked from Stansted to Rues where we will be collected and taken to our place of home for a week. So I am currently looking forward to a pint of magners at the airport!

The main headache and a headache a lot of carp anglers face when going away is what to take..  Now the beauty of this particular trip is that all the rods, reels, brolly’s, pods, alarms, landing net etc is all provided in the cost of the holiday.  So it’s carp fishing tackle and carp fishing bait i’m looking at… and I emphasise carp fishing tackle and carp fishing bait as I do not want to be attached to one of those moggies.. It may be for some but it does nothing for me.

I have settled on my standard materials for this trip as I trust them and after having seen everything on the market when it comes to carp fishing tackle and have become to trust and love as though they were my own inception.  For this trip it will be Rig Marole’s Hydrolink, Hydrolink Micro and CamH20 hooklink materials.  It gives me a great option to change things around if I need to but whatever rig I choose I know one of these materials will give me the strength and durability to do it.  Next and most important when it comes to carp fishing tackle is hooks… Anyone who knows me knows that I am incredibly fussy with hooks and because of this I have settled with the good old Gamakatsu Gpoint Super’s in size 4,6 & 8… Simply put they are strong and stupidly sharp!

Leads is another minefield and I have decided on some 4 & 5oz flat pear, square pear and grippa leads.. All from Korda.  The idea being that I know Spain is going to going through its thawing a little quicker than us, and knowing that the Piranese mountains flood the river at this time of year the chances of a fast flow are very likely.  Hence a big arsed lead with flat sides! That’s the carp fishing tackle sorted now the carp fishing bait!

Bait wise it was quite an easy decision as Nick advised us that he was catching fish on DT Baits or anything with a fruity tang. So I have my plastic corn doused in DT LMPSE, Some DT Cold Water Green Beast and some DT Fish n Blood boilies, all proven winners for me over the years and all that I have a massive amount of trust in… So watch this space and I will aim to keep you informed as I go along!

  1. CRUEL…. Cruel is the understatement of the century lol. I could not fish my local lake for over a month because of the cold snap. But now that has passed, i can get back to my carp fishing on a regular basis.

I have always wanted to visit the Ebro, however its always been with the urge to catch catfish rather than carp.

I look forward to reading about your catch.
